Thank you for what you do. There is so much support while pregnant...
and then you have the baby and that's when the REAL assistance is needed.

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT

"Pam was one of my biggest supporters in the early days with my 2nd child. If not for her support and encouragement, I don't know if I would have continued to breastfeed as successfully as I did. When my 3rd child was born, I had no doubt in my mind that I would breastfeed him with no problems even upon my return to work. But, it wasn't only the breastfeeding that Pam helped me with. It was also those crazy moments when you wonder how to get through the day with a newborn, how you will ever have a "normal" life again. Her confidence in me and her constant encouragement helped me build my confidence. She realized that as a mother I had my own beliefs and ways, and she never tried to convince me that I was wrong or that I should be doing something differently. In the first few weeks after birth, this is so important. When you are bombarded with "you should do this..." "you shouldn't do that..." it is invaluable to have someone on your side."

When a mother's primary concern is getting breastfeeding off to a good start, hiring a skilled postpartum doula to work with her soon after childbirth is an excellent strategy for success. Pam Diamond has been a La Leche League leader and breastfeeding educator for more than 11 years. She can help mother and baby with breastfeeding basics such as proper positioning and latch, how to know if baby is getting enough, answer breastfeeding questions, as well as problem-solve when necessary. For issues beyond a doula's scope of practice, referrals will be made to lactation consultants or healthcare professionals.

DOULA SERVICES BEFORE/AFTER ADOPTION

"My husband and I recently adopted a little girl.  The timeline was such that we had just three days notice to bring her home.  While we were overjoyed to have our daughter in our lives, our home as well as ourselves were more than unprepared for a proper arrival on how to best care for her.

Pam was referred to me by a friend and when I contacted her with our situation she immediately made time for us in her busy schedule.   She came to our house on a Sunday morning and spent relaxed time with my husband, daughter and I providing wonderful insight to us on things we should, as well as should not, purchase that would make our transition more smooth.  She helped answer questions in regards to feeding, green products, how to comfort our baby, the list goes on – she is a wealth of wonderful knowledge!

Upon Pam’s departure, my husband and I felt like we had been given a sense of direction which was a comfort to both of us.  Pam continues to offer to be in touch with us as things come up which, again, is a very helpful resource to us.  Pam is one of those gifted people that “speaks” to babies.  It is a special thing to see.  We feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with her."

ANTEPARTUM DOULA CARE

Though a mother may have thoroughly planned for her pregnancy, sometimes bed rest because of a high risk pregnancy or illness becomes necessary. An antepartum doula can help make that time less isolated and stressful.
